Where New Year Hospitalities Will Be Extended. December 31 1888 Ltr. A-B

Tomorrow the custom of calling and receiving calls in the City of Brooklyn will be extensively observed. The clubs will, as a rule, keep open houses tomorrow. Today's list contains such names as the Eckford, the Echo, the Federal Republican and others. There will be a disposition where callers are not formally received by card or otherwise to invite in a few friends.

His Honor, Mayor A. C. Chapin, will shake hands with his constituents who may be pleased to call at the City Hall between 10 A.M. and noon.

Among the social lights who have been prominent landmarks in "receiving" on January 1 for years past is Mrs. Henry Ward Beecher, who will be at the residence of her son, Mr. William C. Beecher, 123 Columbia Heights. She is advanced in years, but the sight of a host of friends, their kind salutations and abundance of good wishes will carry her unwearied through the day.

The social circles will not dispense with any of their time honored hospitalities, as will be seen by perusing the subjoined list. The list of "Will Not Receive" is comparatively small. The weather has been unfavorable for out of door Winter sports, and very few people will leave town. A radical and peculiar departure will be made at 41 South Elliott place, where H. B. Lane, Jr., Frederick J. Hatch and Samuel Mayer will receive calls.

Rev. George E. Reed, of New Haven, Conn., formerly pastor of Hanson Place M.E. Church, will be in town tomorrow, with Mrs. Reed, on a visit to professor and Mrs. H.J. Schmitz, of 218 Adelphi street. They will be pleased to see any friends between 12 and 2:30 o'clock.

The Eagle extends to all the compliments of the season and its best wishes for a happy New Year.
