LORD, OTIS PHILLIPS, A. B. Amherst 1832, LL.B. 1836; born Ipswich, July 11, 1812. son of Nathaniel and Eunice (Kimball) Lord, died Salem, March 13, 1884; studied law with Judge Oliver B. Morris; admitted Essex bar, Dec., 1835; removed to Salem, 1844, representative in 1847- 8-52-3-4, speaker in last year; state senator, 1849, member Constitutional Convention, 1853; judge of Superior Court, from its organization. 1859, until Dec. 21, 1875, when he was appointed associate justice Supreme Judicial Court, resigning Dec. 8, 1882.

Apr. 5, 1837; representative. 1838; after Charlestown was made a city, 1847. was mayor three successive years; senator 1853-4; secretary Bunker Hill Monument Ass'n. ten years, its president, 1847 to 1875; appointed Judge Charlestown District Municipal Court, held office until death; married (first), 1835. Lucy Rogers, daughter of Jonathan Newell, (second), Georgianna, daughter of Jonathan and Susan (Pratt) Thompson.

WATERS. ASA HOLMAN. A. B. Yale 1829; died Millbury, Jan. 17, 1887.

WELCH, CHARLES ALFRED. A. B. 1833; born Boston, Jan. 30, 1815, son of Francis and Margaret Crease (Stackpole) Welch; father was merchant and many years president Franklin Ins. Co., of Boston ; one of the oldest families In Boston; 11 Pemberton Sq., Boston; admitted Suffolk bar, Apr., 1837; partner of Edward D. Sohler, March, 1838, to Nov. 1888: married Mary Love, daughter of Kirk Boott, of Lowell.
